HOMELESS families have been forced to live in tents a mile from a historic city centre.

Around 20 people are living in the dilapidated camp just a stone’s throw from leafy Colchester, Essex.

Elizabeth fled her home in Clacton after being ‘domestically abused’

Desperate mum Elizabeth Burnett, 43, has been living rough for months since fleeing her home in Clacton, the Colchester Gazette reports.

She left with her 20-year-old son after “suffering domestic abuse” and says: “I feel like I could die out here and no-one would care.

“We don’t know where to go and I know I’m going down hill fast. None of us want to be here.”

  1. Nobody should have to live like this, it is a national scandal that anyone should be homeless in this day and age. The government like to present us as a wealthy nation to the world, yet they hide the poverty that is endemic in our society.
