‘No military personnel to protect public at FA Cup final’ despite CRITICAL terror threat : Express

MILITARY personnel will not be deployed around Wembley Stadium for the FA Cup final on Saturday, despite the Prime Minister’s pledge to keep the “public safe” after the devastating Manchester bombing on Monday evening.

The revelation marks a change in Britain’s defence stance days after Theresa May made the unprecedented decision to deploy as many as 5,000 armed troops at certain events including concerts and sports matches.

According to a Scotland Yard source, fans can expect to see extra police resources, including armed officers stationed in and around the stadium.

However, Army personnel will not be involved in safeguarding the match between Arsenal and Chelsea, Sky News reports.

In a bid to ensure all public events taking place over the weekend can proceed as normal, Scotland Yard has said there will be additional security.

Hours after terrorist Salman Abedi detonated a suicide bomb at Manchester arena killing 22 innocent victims, Mrs May warned the British public that they may “see military personnel deployed at certain events… helping the police to keep the public safe“.
