Jeremy Corbyn has called for Theresa May to resign as Prime Minister for presiding over cuts to the police as Home Secretary. In the wake of Saturday night’s terror attack at London Bridge and previous attacks in Westminster and Manchester, the issue of a reduction in police numbers has become political. The Labour leader told ITV reporter Rachel Younger that the PM should resign over her record. ‘Very worried’ He claimed “very responsible people” are “very worried” about her actions and said that it was time to step down. Police numbers dropped by 13 per cent between 2010 and 2016, according to Home Office figures, with the number of firearms officers reduced from 6,976 to 5,639 in the same period.
