Keith Fraser, who won just 413 seats in last night’s election, made the outburst onstage at the count in Islington North.

The Labour leader won 40,086 votes, with the highest turnout in the constituency since 1951.

He said: “This election was called in order for the Prime Minister to gain a larger majority in order to assert her authority.

“And the election campaign has gone on for the last six weeks, I’ve travelled the whole country. I’ve spoken at events and rallies all over the country.

“And you know what? Politics has changed.

“Politics isn’t going back into the box where it was before. What’s happened is people have said they’ve had quite enough of austerity politics.
