Jeremy Corbyn’s former leadership rival Owen Smith has returned to the shadow cabinet.
The Labour leader brought back the man who tried to oust him in 2016 as he began putting together a “strengthened shadow cabinet” following the General Election. The Pontypridd MP will serve under Mr Corbyn as shadow Northern Ireland secretary.
Mr Corbyn has only announced a handful of new members to his shadow cabinet: Northern Ireland In: Owen Smith Out: David Anderson, who stood down as an MP in the 2017 election
Scotland In: Lesley Laird Out: David Anderson, who stood down as an MP in the 2017 election
Party Chair In: Ian Lavery Out: Tom Watson, who remains deputy leader and shadow secretary for culture, media and sport Communities and Local Government
