Theresa May ‘fails to submit opening Brexit negotiation papers’ DAYS before vital talks : Express

BREXIT negotiations could start embarrassingly for Britain after it emerged Theresa May’s Government has failed to outlined their opening negotiation position to the EU ahead of Monday’s talks, according to reports.

EU insiders claim Brussels sent its “positioning papers” to Downing Street four days ago, expecting similar documents in return.

Yet one EU bigwigs claim they have not received any documentation yet, as Mrs May struggles to finalise Britain’s Brexit position.

Speaking to the Independent, a source said it was “unbelievable” that the UK had still not sent the “basic papers for the start of the negotiations”.

The source added: “The talks are beginning on Monday. There are no positioning papers yet. It’s a basic thing that should happen beforehand. It doesn’t bode well.”

Mrs May’s failure to submit the documents will not delay in the talks. Instead politicians will be left fighting about how negotiations will be conducted, as Mrs May attempts to lead the country out of the clutches of EU bureaucrats.

Yesterday a professor disparaged British politics, comparing the delays in Brexit negotiations to students who keep writing drafts but never finish the essay.

Helen Drake, of Loughborough University, said: “I keep finding myself at the same point which is the UK does have a lot of cards as a negotiating party.
