In a speech to council leaders, Mr Javid said he wanted ‘a much more frank, open discussion with local residents and communities’

His comments were seen as a dig at Nimbys who oppose development in their neighbourhoods.

But he added: “Where housing is particularly unaffordable, local leaders need to take a long, hard, honest look to see if they are planning for the right number of homes.”

  1. Good luck with that then. Wealthy Nimbys nearly always win these disputes, as they have more collective wealth than even Tory MPs, and can afford the legal challenges to restrict any new building.
