The healthcare firm said the data includes names, dates of birth, nationalities and some contact details.
BUPA has been hit by a major data breach after an employee deliberately stole 108,000 customers’ private information, the company said.
The data, which included names, dates of birth, nationalities and some contact details, was “inappropriately copied from a database and shared with third parties”.
The private healthcare group today confirmed authorities are carrying out an investigation and it’s working to contact those affected.
It says that medical and financial information hasn’t been shared but customers with international private health insurance and a policy number that begins “BI” have been hit.
