Staff panicked after finding Ronald Dean, 86, lifeless on his knees in a praying position in his ‘freezing’ room where a window had been left open

Staff at a care home panicked when they discovered an elderly man dead on the floor then lifted him back into bed and told relatives he ‘died peacefully in his sleep’, a court heard.

Ronald Dean, 86, a devout Catholic, was found lifeless on his knees in a praying position in his ‘freezing’ room where a window had been left open on January 8, last year.

The retired milkman had previously been in ‘high spirits’ and was due to give his daughter away at her wedding on the day of his death, the Manchester Evening News reported .

The amateur singer had been a resident of Lever Edge Care home in Bolton for six months and was supposed to receive round-the-clock care for a series of ailments, including Alzheimer’s.

But that Friday night only five of six staff were on duty which meant that one of the carers, Danielle Menzies, was left to cope on a section for residents with dementia on her own, the court heard.

She failed to check him at 6am and found his naked body on the floor, in the praying position, at 6.30am.

  1. In this instance, I actually feel sorry for the staff involved. It looks as if his death would have happened anyway. It was silly to tell a lie, but it wasn’t malicious.

  2. I actually know someone who works in a private care home.

She’s from Wales, all the rest of the staff are foreign, can hardly speak English, and are supposed to be trained nurses.

Whenever there’s a medical crisis the – so called nurses – run away and leave the Welsh girl (who is not a nurse) who has to put her fingers down patients throats and retrieve pills the person has stuck in their throat as well as administer first aid etc etc.

Privatise, and in order to save money…just hire the dregs of Europe.
