Theresa May blasted for ‘inhuman’ answers during Newsnight grilling on Grenfell Tower fire : Express

THERESA May has been roasted by viewers for her “robotic” and “inhuman” answers to questions about the Grenfell Tower disaster.

The Prime Minister was grilled by the BBC’s Newsnight and appeared deeply uncomfortable about the line of questioning posed by Emily Maitlis.

Mrs May has faced a barrage of abuse for her Government’s handling of the tragedy and only increases the calls for her resignation which has mounted since the General Election.

She faced widespread condemnation for failing to meet victims of the tower block fire during her first visit to the site on Thursday, while Jeremy Corbyn was seen hugging and comforting those affected.

Mrs May then returned to the site on Friday, only for her vehicle to be surrounded and greeted with jeers of “coward” and “May must go”.

During the excruciating interview, Ms Maitlis told the former Home Secretary: “You misread the public mood on this one. You misread the anger that people feel about this.

“They shouted coward after you this afternoon when you left St Clement’s.”

In robotic fashion, May answered: “What I have done since this incident took place is, first of all yesterday, ensure that public services had the support that they needed in order to be able to do the job they were doing in the immediate aftermath.
